I am lost. I don't know who Veer Zaara is or what, 'Tere liye hum hain jiye' means???
Am trying to determine by the characters, Hope has disdain for Veer Zaara? being the tougher more melancholy one. & Sugar is being silly?
Veer Zaara is this recent Bollywood(as in Indian Film industry)weepie which each and every self respecting intellectual worth his/her jhola( a bag, an Indian equivalent of...whatever an intellectual is known by in the west) and mojris(slippers)hated...now who is being what is for you to figure out.
"Tere liye hum hain jiye" is a song from this movie (yes most bollywood films are what can be called musicals, with a song for every occasion)...it would roughly translate as -for you i have been living, swallowing all my tears- aint that corny????
Sounds like American soap operas.(do you know what I mean?) But, more over the top. I don't mind melodrama if it is not taking it's self seriously. This sotra thing is an escape for people. Not my cup of tea. People that are romantic types & emotional like it.
Intellectuals in the west are known as intellectuals. Sometimes called egg-heads(derogatory)
We would say, some one worth his/her salt.
